Dental Implant Surgery has home care instructions, follow these guidelines to ensure it's success:
- Use gauze as a compress in your mouth to stop any moderate bleeding
- Inform us if you normally wear dentures to discuss if they should be worn
- Use ice packs or cold compresses to reduce swelling and pain
- Stay on medications as directed (if prescribed)
- Avoid eating for at least a couple of hours during the procedure, then only eat soft foods for several months after your surgery
- After 24 hours, Resume brushing and flossing but be very gentle around your implant site. We may advise special instructions for cleaning
- After 24 hours, try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water
- Avoid tobacco products until complete healing has occurred
You will most likely have discomfort for a few days after your procedure, however if your implant shows through the gums, or you have persistant bleeding, pain or numbness, please call our office with your concerns.
